The Charalane “Laney” Hoxter Scholarship Fund
The C. “Laney” M. Hoxter Scholarship Fund was created in loving memory of our mother-in-love, educator, advocate, and lifelong champion for Black students and community uplift. Laney devoted her life to education, social justice, and service—believing deeply in the power of access, encouragement, and collective responsibility.
Long before her transition, Laney and her son began the quiet but intentional work of supporting college students by awarding $250 book scholarships to help ease the financial burden of higher education. That spirit of generosity planted a seed that continues to grow.
After her passing, we relaunched and expanded the scholarship as a living continuation of her legacy. Each year, the fund provides book scholarships to incoming freshmen attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)—honoring Laney’s lifelong commitment to education, excellence, and opportunity for Black youth.
In addition to the scholarship, the fund now includes a Heart-to-Heart community event focused on Black women’s heart health and wellness. This offering was added in direct response to Laney’s transition due to heart-related complications, transforming loss into purpose, awareness, and care for others.
Through education, wellness, and community connection, the Charalane “Laney” Hoxter Scholarship Fund ensures that her love, leadership, and impact continue to reach future generations—one student, one conversation, and one act of care at a time.
